Think of your blades as knives. Now when you are moving, the movement is not like trying to cut the ice, it is more like youre trying to scrape with it. You need to bend your knees and push to the side and back, at a slight angle with your blades with your inside edges. That is what propelling you to move forward. Remember to keep your knees bent always. To go faster, bend deeper and create harder, longer pushes for good control. You might get out of control and go faster than you intended. The crucial part of stroking is the push, though. You should push on an inside edge. You dont want to be pushing on your toe-pick.
When you are on your board and hopefully moving, make sure that you are standing up straight and evenly distributing your weight on the board. Adjust your feet around the screws in the grip tape as you need and you will see that its not so difficult after all. Also it can help if you lower your waist by bending your legs for added balance. Depending on what youre doing, youll have to adjust small parts of your stance to put yourself in the optimal position. Its not like youre going to stay in the exact same position the entire time. These are just guidelines that will widely apply to a lot of different circumstances. Dont get too obsessive about this stuff.
