Nowadays the skate shoes are not only used for skateboarding but have gained much popularity as a fashion statement, too. After being popularized by the pro-skateboarders, many, especially the teens, are wearing these shoes for every day casual wear. Have you ever wanted to know what it was like to surf, but didnt have a beach near you? Now there is actually a way for you to do this. What you need, basically, is a cylinder and a board. You place the cylinder on the ground, put the board on the cylinder, and then get on the board and balance yourself in mid air. It sounds a little crazy, maybe even a little too simple, but theres actually a product available for this, and its called an Indo Board. By standing on this board and balancing yourself in the air, you can learn to balance yourself just like you would need to do on a skate board or a surf board. You can use one of these indoor balance boards to improve your current skating, your current surfing, or to prepare to learn one or the other.
With advances in technology and manufacturing improving the skateboard year on year, Skateboarding grew in popularity. The mid 1970s saw a big peak in popularity for skateboarding and then again in the 1980s. Todays skateboarders are predominantly street skaters. Most boards are between seven and eight inches wide and 30 to 32 inches long. The wheels are made of hard polyurethane and are small in size to make the board lighter and the wheels inertia quicker. There are a reported 18.5 million skateboarders in the world, 85% of these are under the age of eighteen
Try some off-ice exercises. When you are at home just practice standing on one leg and bending it. Stand on one foot with your other foot held up but not touching your leg, arms outstretched to the side as you would in skating, head held up. When you can do that for 30 seconds on each leg, repeat it with your eyes closed. If you have no problem with that, buy a wobble board, a half foam roller, a BOSU board, anything that makes balance harder as you practice your way to better balance. Do basic core exercises - crunches for instance. A strong core makes balance easier.
