Bend both your knees slightly when you skate - even if its just gliding. Bending your knees will keep your feet/skates right under you. Keep your head up - dont look at the ice. Dont lean too much forward, in other words dont stick out your rear. Keep your arms out in front of you at 10:10 or 2:50 as on a clock, they are your balancing poles. The more you skate, the more balanced youll get.
If you do not have any skate parks in your hometown and planning to visit a park out of the town, make sure to check accommodation facilities beforehand. In addition to skateboard helmets and pads, you may also consider carrying an extra skate board in case one breaks. If you have not carried any protective gear along with you, you can ask the locals about the best skate shops around. The locals will also be able to help you with other attraction for skaters in the town.
I would recommend that you go on You Tube and check out some of the Jam Skating and see if it is something that would interest you. Tony Zane and Diamond Walker are two of the most renowned individual jam skaters. Most competitions usually come down to them having a skate off. Another form of roller skating that you may want to look into is Vertical roller skating. Vertical skating is and can be performed in a bowl, on ramps, or just what you see on the street. Using the bowl for Vertical, the skater uses the bowl to get momentum and shoots out the other side performing a trick in the air. The Ramp form of vertical skating is pretty much just like you see in the Olympic Skateboard events, however more stunts can be performed because you dont lose contact with your skates. During this a skater would be performing a series of tricks or moves rated with difficulty levels while transiting down the distance of the ramp, or should I say navigating across the ramp.
